The little wood box

I recently posted this picture on FB and instagram and had an amazing response.  I decided I needed to do a blog post on the subject matter also. It's funny, even guests who come over comment on the little wood box.

I think it is simple and practical...cute even.
Most are drawn to anything vintage these days and the use of raw wood is also a plus.

Since the TP box was such a hit on FB, I decided to share my whole bathroom. Today will mainly focus on the door because I don't have a ton of time, but I will get the decor photos up soon.

All of the doors in my house are painted and textured and have some sort of adornment. Once I did my first door in this house, I was hooked ... actually obsessed is a better word. I needed to paint and distress ALL of the doors and find funky signage.

I found this original vintage sign years ago at Junk Bonanza.
It is roughly 2.5" x 10.5" and cost $16
I knew immediately where I wanted to put it.... placed on the outside of the guest bathroom door adds a hint of whimsy and a hint of my personality.

The doors themselves have 2 or 3 different shades of paint, lots of sanding and distressing and some texturing with grout powder added to the paint.  I can't remember what that tile grout mixture is called, but I mixed it with some paint and splotched it on areas of the door that I imagined would have years of chipping and ware if it truly was a vintage door.

You have to mix small batches and work fast because the mixture will harden quickly.

No, not a vintage knob.
Not that I don't have 100's of chippy - loads of character - vintage knobs around the house. I just don't have the skill to mount them on a lock-set door handle that will remain usable. So, I did the next best thing...I painted it. I really don't have red as an accent anywhere in my house, but this splash of red seemed appropriate at the time. I now love it and refuse to change it.... my Mr. mentions a color change from time to time.

The room itself is small.
It is a half bath - no tub or shower...I believe we call this a "powder room" here in the states.
As you can see by this picture, I pack in the decor.... this doesn't even show the other two walls. As I mentioned, I will focus on the decor in my next post... today the door.

This is the door from the inside of the bathroom.
You can see the paint a little better.
The signage "office"
... just a hint of humor!

Doesn't this door look authentically vintage.
All old and re-salvaged?

The knob, again, is just paint.
When we moved in the hardware that was "in style" was that shiny brass color.
We did change out some of the door handle sets, but it started to get expensive.

One day, I was impatient with waiting to change out the knobs, and painted one. I thought it would be a temporary fix but I was pleasantly surprised with the durability of the paint staying on the knob.  This knob, I used a few different colors... again to give that chippy vintage look that we all love.

I have done a lot of changes...put my personal touch...on something at my house... actually on everything at my house... spur of the moment. My impatience, that I mentioned happens quite often. I think of something and I need it done immediately, which means you have to use what you have on hand or what is available in your home town - close by.

I don't know if this happens to you, but if I think things through and wait, the idea is replaced a hundred times over with something else. My brain needs reaction or the thoughts are often lost.  If I am working on a project that can't take place immediately, I have to sketch it out and then close the book and start gathering my props for the future project, and then leave it alone until D-day.

Crazy as it sounds - that's how it works for me.

 Ta-ta for now

Layer it on. Change it up.

Time for a refresh. Have you ever looked at an area in your house and thought I am done looking at that mess.   Or maybe it's just time...
