A twist on re-upholstering

I Love burlap and linen and I especially love a combination of the two. I don't have a sewing machine, nor do I have the knowledge or time to do reupholstering. However, I found this old chair and knew I could bring new life to it....somehow.
Poor Thing.

I went to the local fabric shop and bought 5 different pieces of material. Tan burlap, white burlap, flax linen, striped linen and a black damask type print. I grabbed a few funky furniture tacks and some fabric glue and then went to town. My mother said "that is not how we reupholster".... well, not everything I do is conventional. Anyway, I love how the chair turned out. I can't wait to find another so I can play some more.

I decided to drape and tie the linen covering the top and back...fun, fun, fun.

The white burlap is under the front cushion and covering the arms and the flax burlap is on the sides with the funky tacks.

I used some black fabric paint for the bottom front section...you've got to be flexible with this new age upholstering. :)

Smell the lavender

Stop and smell the lavender. From Denmark...only 3 bundles left. Heaven.

I just returned from a trip down to Kansas. My mother and I drove down and picked up my sister, who flew in from Charleston, South Carolina. Our first stop was Curious Sofa and then we went on to Nell Hill's. Great fun to visit these other fabulous shops and to have some R&R with my family. We then junked our way back home filling the truck with fun goodies.

first impressions

Don't forget to let the world know how you feel about your home, or in my case, my store. Adding decor to your front door, entryway or walkway makes that first impression and shouts Welcome. I don't have window boxes at home so I particularly love to get whimsical and have fun with these at the store. The items outside are also for sale so that allows me the opportunity to re-do my creations through out the season. I'll be digging out my larger shells and American flags to welcome the summer later today. Bring on the heat and the sunshine...we have had 5 days of clouds, cold (48 degrees...during the day!!), and rain. Ugh!

Customs / Jeanne d' Arc Living

I just received my first shipment of goods from Denmark. WoW! Jeanne d' Arc Living has really got it going on! Love. Love. Love. Look at these great containers above. Four different sizes, heavy metal, perfect.

The product is amazing!! The adventure of getting the product, on the other hand, was quite eventful. First I needed to order enough to fill the container. Not that I couldn't find enough great stuff, it was what could I afford. You also have to prepay, which means tying up a lot of cash, for a month or so, before you even see the product. I was so excited to hear it made it to Canada, but that was when a customs agent informed me that I needed to be represented and a lot more fees would be tacked on....weeks went by. I began to think I will Never do this again.

But, low and behold the stuff finally arrived...getting it out of the crate was another adventure. Lanette and I were so pathetic out in the parking lot... circling the box, with our drill and hammer, that we drew the attention of a nice man going by, who just happened to have a pry bar and large hammer in his car...saved the day.

Now that I have the majority of the items unpacked...I am in heaven. I will definitely be reordering. I wanted to get this post out this morning...more pictures to come.

This pillow is gorgeous. Sorry, I only have 3 left. It is double the size of a normal throw pillow and oh so soft.

It is not printed in English; however, the pictures and ideas will fulfill all of your winter decorating needs. Great for a gift or for yourself. These are in limited production, Jeanne d' Arc Living will no longer be publishing them, so I do not know if they can be reordered. I was going to save them for the holidays, but I already have people asking for them. :) $58
